Elmer and Dolores Little have made their
home in Mullen, NE since 1947. They moved
their present house from Purdum, Nebraska
in 1950 and have since added on to the
original structure. Elmer worked for the
Mullen Co-Op at that time and then in 1949
began working for Harry Mathews at Ma-
thews Chevrolet and established his sales
route for the Phillips 66 gasoline truck he was
driving. He since has worked for Paul and
Arthur "Swede" Mathews and Paul Schmok-
er, continuing to maintain service to his route
customers.

Elmer was born on his parents', Carl and
Tennie (Long) Little, ranch north of Mullen
in southern Cherry County. He grew up there
and as a young man worked on neighbors'
ranches, i.e. the Murphy Ranch, Pullman
Ranch, Wolfenden Ranch, Roseberry Ranch,
Big Creek Ranch and Monahan Ranch. In
1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps
and served his country during World War II.
He fought in battles on Guadalcanal, Bogain-
ville, Green Island and was on the USS
McFarland to return home when it was
bombed by the Japanese at Guadalcanal.
Elmer has been a member of the Marcy
Upton Post #109 in Mullen since 1946.

Elmer and Dolores met in Thedford,
Nebraska, where Dolores is from. Dolores was
born on her parents', Ralph and Edith
(Ricks) Jameson, ranch south of Thedford in
Thomas County. Her father homesteaded
there on the Dismal River in 1913. Dolores
graduated from Thedford High School. Since
her marriage, Dolores has dedicated her time
to her husband and their three children,
Danny, Eula and Linda. Dolores was a
charter member of the hospital auxiliary and
served many years in the organization. She
has also been active in the Legion Auxiliary
and various school organizations during the
time her children were attending the Mullen
schools. Elmer and Dolores's children are
graduates of Mullen High School and were all
married in the United Methodist Church in
Mullen.
