Emmett E. Long was born in Grayson
County, Va., near Independence on February
14, 1877. In March of 1895 his parents, Calvin
and Mary Long, moved their family by box
car to Mullen, Nebraska. They left three
married children in Virginia and one child
that died in infancy. At this time Emmett was
18. His father homesteaded northeast of
Mullen. The first summer Emmett and two
brothers worked in the hay field for John
Roseberry. He later worked for the UBI and
ZX. Emmett worked on ranches and also
helped at the Walter Wilde Saloon in Mullen.
Sarah Wilde (Sadie) was born June 9, 1887
at Chadron, Nebraska. Her Mother and
Father were married at Galena, Illinois in
1867 and moved to South Dakota. Her family
lived on a ranch east of Oelrichs, South
Dakotaa. Sadie's father passed away when
she was 3 and her mother died when she was
5. Sadie's olders sisters worked at a boarding
house in Galena, and when Mary Wilde
married George Goodnick and moved to the
ranch they took Sadie to raise. Sadie was
educated at the Academy at Sturgis. Sadie's
brother, Walter, worked for the 101 Cattle
Company and moved to Mullen when the
Company moved their Headquarters. In 1904
Sadie traveled to Mullen to visit her brother.
Walter Wilde and Emmett Long were work-
ing together at Walter's Saloon. Sadie and
Emmett met. Sadie returned to South Dako-
ta and Emmett managed to visit the Good-
nick Ranch and also visit Sadie and Family
at Chadron. September 26, 1926 Sadie and
Emmett were married at Galena, South
Dakota. The couple returned to Mullen and
Emmett and Walter continued to operate the
saloon. Emmett and Sadie had four children.
Paul was born January 31, 1908. He married
Eva Reigle. They had a son Dick and
daughter Patsy. Dorothy was born April 4,
1910. She married Ralph Brown. Ralph was
a barber. He and Dorothy moved to Arthur,
Ne. and when Sadie and Emmett went to visit
them they had to open 65 gates. Dorothy and
Ralph had two sons, Ralph Jr., and Bob.
Emmett Glen was born November 9, 1912
and married Lena Mae Eivins on July 6, 1938.
They had two sons and one daughter. Dan
was born 1939. Marsha Kay was
born 1944 and Bob was born
1948. Mary Jane was born 1924.
She and her first husband, George Bendows-
ky had three daughters. Lynne, Ann and
Georgia. He was killed in a car wreck in 1951.
Mary Jane married Lou Tiecheria in 1952.
She and Lou have one son Gary, and one
daughter Deanna.

In 1913 Emmett moved his family to
Crawford for one year and when they re-
turned to Mullen they homesteaded 18 miles
northwest. The family moved into Mullen in
1918 and Emmett sold insurance until 1922
when the family moved southeast of Mullen.
In 1928 they again moved to Mullen and
Emmett returned to the Insurance Business.
In the late thirties Emmett ran the Long
Liquor Store and for two years in the forties
ran the Telephone Co. In 1941 Sadie and
Emmett moved to Alliance, NE. Emmett
passed away oct. 17, 1944 in Alliance. In 1945
Sadie moved to Oakland, California to make
her home with her daughter Dorothy and
husband Ralph. Sadie passed away February
9, 1976 in California. She was returned to
Mullen to be buried beside Emmett.
