Wayne and Martha Osborne


Burlin Wayne Osborne was born 26 Febru-
ary 1925 in Mullen, to Mac and Gussie
(Boyer) Osborne. He graduated from Mullen
High School in 1942 and worked at the Bank
of Mullen that summer. After one year at
Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln, he
entered the Navy where he became a Mail
Specialist assigned to Fleet Post Offices in
San Francisco, Pearl Harbor, Majuro, Mar-
shall Islands, Saipan and Seattle. He was
married 30 September 1945 at Hay Springs,
Nebraska to Martha Scott.

Martha was born 29 September 1924 at
Omaha, Nebraska to Rev. David and Alice
(Wilcox) Scott. She attended elementary
schools at Chambers, Elgin and Meadow
Grove and high schools at Bradshaw and
Paxton, graduating in 1941. She graduated
from nebraska Wesleyan University in 1945
and received her Masters in Educational
Psychology from Kearney State College in
1967. She taught at Hay Springs and Cozad
Nebraska, Wichita, Kansas and Edmonds,
Washington.

Wayne graduated from Nebraska Wes-
leyan in 1948 and they returned to Mullen the
next year. He worked in the post office, the
Co-Op, Franke Construction Co. and Mis-
souri Valley Construction Co. In 1954 they
moved to Cozad where he worked for The
Cozad Local newspaper until 1957 when he
became a carrier & clerk for the Cozad Post
Office. In 1967 they moved to Wichita,
Kansas where Wayne was assigned as an
Internal Auditor for the Postal Inspection
Service. In 1971 he was transferred to Seattle,
WA where he retired in 1981.

Wayne & Martha have three daughters and
seven grandchildren. Carolyn was born
1947 at Lincoln, Nebraska. She
married Kenneth Peacock at Lincoln 15 June
1968. They have two children, Robert and
Pamela and live at Gretna, Louisiana. Max-
ine was born 1949 at Gremont,
Nebraska. She married Bruce Masters at
Cozad 30 December 1969. They have three
children, Marcia, Brian and Brent and live at
Tulsa, Oklahoma. Barbara was born
1951 at Loup city, Nebraska. She married
Jimmy Ross Carlson at Wichita, Kansas 13
June 1970. After they were divorced, she
married Chris Davis at Edmonds, Wash-
ington 3 April 1981. They and her two
children, Crystal and Amy Carlson, live at
Lynnwood, Washington.

While in Mullen, Wayne & Martha were
active workers in the Methodist Church and
various other organizations. Wayne was
elected to the school board, was secretary of
the Commercial Club, chairman of the March
of Dimes and adjutant of the American
Legion.
