Bank of Mullen - 1987


The present building has been remodeled
twice. First in 1961 with Walter Mischnick as
the contractor. Open House was held March
25, 1961, to show off the newly remodeled
quarters and to celebrate the twenty-fifth
anniversary of the only bank in Hooker
County. Again in 1981, due to addition of new
equipment and the need for more office
space, the building was remodeled and
enlarged. Robert R. Phillip was in charge of
the operation. Open House for the public was
held May 30, 1981.

Officers elected January 8, 1965, were:
LeRoy Abbott, President; W.H. Bramer,
Executive Vice-President; Daniel C. Deibler,
Jr., Cashier; John M. Jones, who joined the
bank staff Apri l15, 1961, Assistant Cashier.
On January 8, 1966, W.D. Stroud was elected
Vice-President. Daniel C. Deibler, Jr., died
February 4, 1966.

LeRoy Abbott died January 1, 1967 while
on a holiday cruise with his family. The
stockholders elected Francis R. Hanna as
director January 25, 1967. At the directors
meeting held the same day, officers elected
were: W.H. Bramer, President; Donald D.
Stull, who transferred from the Bank of
Hyannis, Vice-President and Cashier; John
M. Jones, Assistant Cashier; Sarah T. Bram-
er, Assistant Cashier. Paul M. Hefti was
elected to the board of directors January 23,
1968.

W.H. Bramer retired from the bank staff
in December, 1969, after 34 years of faithful
service during which time the bank enjoyed
a prosperous and steady growth. At the
January 1970 meeting W.H. Bramer was
elected President; Donald D. Stull, Vice-
President and Manager; and John M. Jones,
Cashier. Mac Osborne, one of the original
directors, died June 30, 1970.

On January 12, 1971, Paul M. Hefti was
elected Chairman of the Board and Donald
D. Stull, Executive Vice-President. January
12, 1972, all officers were reelected and
Donald R. Pearson was made Assistant
Cashier. Pearson started work at the bank
August 21, 1967. At the January 8, 1973,
meeting the stockholders elected two new
directors, Donald D. Stull and Lenard Kime.
Lenard was elected to fill the vacancy created
by the death of his father, J.H. Kime. No
further changes until January 26, 1976, when
John M. Jones was elected to the Board of
Directors. Paul M. Heft was elected Chair-
man and President and John M. Jones, Vice-
President and Cashier. In 1977, directors and
officers were reelected without change.

Paul M. Hefti died June 13, 1978. At the
July, 1978 meeting the directors elected
Donald D. Stull, Chairman and President
with John M. Jones, Vice President and
managing officer. James E. Abbott was
elected a director January 31, 1979. Officers
elected then were: Donald D. Stull, Chairman
and President; John M. Jones, Executive
Vice-President; Donald R. Pearson, Cashier;
and Bessie Bradley, Assistant Cashier. Bessie
worked part time for several years and
started full time July 1, 1969. The same
officers and directors were elected in 1980
and 1981. Officers elected January 14, 1982,
were: Donald D. Stull, Chairman; John M.
Jones, President; Donald R. Pearson, Vice-
President and Cashier; Bessie Bradley, Assis-
tant Cashier; Ronald D. Boyer, Assistant
Cashier. Ron joined the bank staff April 17,
1978. January 10, 1983, all officers were
reelected and Donna M. Kennedy was named
Assistant Cashier. Donna started work Au-
gust 7, 1978. Bessie Bradley died July 24,
1983.

Donna M. Kennedy was promoted to
Cashier and Ronald D. Boyer to Assistant
Vice-President January 20, 1986. Donald R.
Pearson resigned August 29, 1986, and
Donald D. Stull resigned January 2, 1987.
Directors elected January 21, 1987, were
James E. Abbott, Frank Tolstedt, Lenard H.
Kime, Francis R. Hanna, and John M. Jones.
Officers elected by the directors were: James
E. Abbott, Chairman; Frank Tolstedt, Vice-
Chairman; John M. Jones, President; Donna
M. Kennedy, Vice-President and Cashier;
Ronald D. Boyer, Assistant Vice-President;
Evelyn K. Elliott, Assistant Cashier. Evelyn
began work at the bank August 30, 1982.
Other members of the bank staff are Carol M.
Wright, who began work August 26, 1983, and
Cathryn Nichols.

A few of the people who have worked at the
bank over the years are Mary Baker, Mariam
Genkins, S.H. McGown, Willard Lynch,
W.D. Stroud, Robert Taylor, and Sandra
Long.

The Bank of Mullen is a member of the
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation with
deposits insured up to $100,000.00. Since it's
beginning in 1936, the bank has enjoyed a
consistent growth. At the close of business
December 31, 1986, it had Capital and
Surplus of $1,000,000.00 and Deposits of
$16,176,317.87.
