Dick's Electric and Plumbing - 1988

In 1946 I went to work hauling gas for
Theodore Folk at the old Farmer's Elevator.
That fall we loaded the last rail road car of
rye to be shipped out of Mullen.

In 1947 I was putting up Wind Chargers
and wiring for a man named Steen from
Thedford.

In 1949 I started installing Kohler and
diesel light plants for a man named Stollen
from Alliance. I also worked at Seneca for a
man named Alferd Helpman who was at that
time working at the light plant. He later went
to work for Custer Power and moved to
Broken Bow.

In 1950 I married Bonnie Sweet who lived
at Mullen. We have 5 children. They all
graduated from Mullen High School.

In 1953 we moved back to Mullen and
started wiring for R.E.A. Power which was
starting to build a power line in this area. I
wired several ranches and homes in this area.

In 1956 we bought a bar in Seneca. To this
I added my electrical business and some
appliances and continued to do the electrical
business out of Mullen. In 1966 I sold the bar
business at Seneca and bought a Backhoe for
digging and added a small plumbing busi-
ness. Then in 1968 I got my license as a Class
A Master Electrician. In 1975 I got a Class A
Contractor License.

We bought the place in Mullen where we
now live, in 1970. Our family now all grown
and married. We have 8 grandchildren - 7
girls and 1 boy.
