I, Lessie Boyer Goldizen and my daughter,
Lolita, came to Mullen in Hooker County in
the summer of 1922 from Bridgeport, Neb-
raska. I bought Bertha Russell's millinery
stock in the spring of 1923 and opened my
business and named it Lessie's Hat Shop.
This was in a building next to or possibly part
of the now Rustic Cafe, which history has it,
was formerly a Mullen saloon.

The happiest moments I spent in my shop
were spent with the girls who stopped in to
chat and admire the hats. The high lights of
my business were "Salesman Day" that was
scheduled twice a year. The salesman would
have a day of showing the latest fashions to
those interested in coming in to look. The
ladies were encouraged to try on the hats and
to select a hat of their choice.

I closed my shop in August 1936 and Lolita
and I moved to Hastings, Nebraska where
Lolita entered Nursing School at the Mary
Lanning Hospital.
