PHIPPS, LYLE R. AND ROBERTA (MILLER)

Lyle Richard (Dick) Phipps was born on
the Carver Gentry Ranch north of Hyannis,
nebraska on 1924 to Lyle Everett
and Jessie (Collins) Phipps. They lived on a
ranch north of Whitman, until time for Dick
to start to school. In the fall of 1929 Dick and
his mother moved to Mullen where they
resided for all of this thirteen years of
schooling. He would go to the ranch to live
with his father in the summer and the winters
he would return to Mullen for school where
his mother was working as Dr. David Walkers
nurse and she had confinement cases in her
home.

After graduation in 1942, Dick moved to
the ranch where he was and still is engaged
in ranching, on his fathers ranch.

January 27, 1945 Dick and Roberta Miller
were united in marriage. Roberta is the third
daughter of Robert W. and Elva (Gier) Miller
who resided in Mullen during the winter
months to school five daughters and Robert
worked on construction during the summer
months. Roberta taught school in District
#107 in Cherry County and she was teaching
in District #117 north of Whitman when she
and Dick were married.

Richard Daniel was born to this union
1945 and 1948
John Nick and James Rick, twin sons were
born.

After attending Lacky Rural School Dis-
trict #117 and when Dan completed the
eighth grade, the family bought their home
in Mullen to send Dan to high school and the
twins to grade school.

A terrible car accident took James Rick's
life on January 14, 1964.
R. Daniel graduated from Mullen High
School in May 1964. he attended two years
of college and on June 4, 1966 he married
Janice Ann Neff' daughter of Lyle and
Phyllis (Curtis) Neff. To this union two
children Curtis Steven and Michelle Renee
were born. C. Steven graduated in May 1984
from Hyannis High School and Michelle in
1987.

J. Nick graduated from Mullen High
School May 1966. He attended Chadron
State College for two years. On June 17, 1967
he married patsy Lou Elliott, daughter of
almond and Mary Elliott of Mullen. They
have three children, John William, David
Allen and Kathy Lynn. They reside on the
ranch north of Whitman and in the winter
they reside at their home in Mullen for the
children to attend school. John W. graduated
with the class of 1987 from Mullen High
School. He makes the third generation to
graduate from Mullen High.

Dick and Roberta are active in many
organizations such as Masonic Lodge and
Eastern Star, Nebraska Stockgrowers and
Cowbelles of which Roberta was State Presi-
dent in 1963-64, Elks and Does of Alliance.
Dick is a director on the Board of Directors
of the Panhandle Rural Electric Association
for the past eight years and also on the Board
of Directors of the Tri-State G & T of Denver,
Colorado. Roberta is presently the Grand
Conductress of the Order of Eastern Star in
Nebraska.
