REIGLE, FAY AND FERN (ANDREWS)

Fay and Fern Reigle; nieces Patty 3, Lynda 8 Andrews


Fay Amos, son of Tom and Teresa (An-
ding) Reigle was born April 24, 1908, at the
homestead in South Cherry County. His
parents came to the Sandhills in 1904 from
Madison County, Nebraska.

He attended the Reigle School in Cherry
County through grade eight. He spent his
early life working on various ranches. In 1937,
he married Fern Andrews in Casper, Wyo-
ming. Fern was born June 14, 1908 at Salex,
lowa to John and Anna (Nystrom) Andrews.
Her parents filed on homesteads in the Big
Creek Vicinity. Fern attended District 147 in
Cherry County and graduated from Mullen
High School in 1926. She taught school in the
winter and attended summer school until she
graduated from Chadron College in 1966.

Fay entered the Army in 1943, and Fern
served as Welfare Director at Chappell, Nebr.
during his absence. When he returned they
moved to Purdum, Nebr. Fay worked for Carl
Wiese and Fern taught the Compton school.
Her school organized a band to compete in 4H
events. After several years of competition
they (Rhythm Wranglers) were chosen to
entertain at the 4H Club Congress in Chica-
go, Illinois.

In 1964, they returned to Mullen. She
taught Cherry County schools until her
retirement in 1971. Fay spends his retirement
years operating the Andrews Ranch on Big
Creek.

Fern enjoys various organizations and was
active in Rebekah Lodge, Retired Teachers.
Project Clubs, United Methodist Women and
Senior Citizens.

They have no children, but their nieces and
nephews have been close.
