Elick and Florence Sexton 50th Anniversary September 12, 1945


The year of 1912 marks the beginning of
Mr. and Mrs. Elick B. Sexton in the State of
Nebraska, and southwest Hooker County.

Elick Burton Sexton, son of William and
Melissa Sexton was born in Vienna, Johnson
County, Illinois on February 14, 1870. When
Elick was two months old his parents moved
to Abilene, Dickenson County, Kansas.

Florence Charolette Guest, daughter of
James and Eunice Guest was born in Abilene,
Dickenson County, Kansas, on October 2,
1876.

September 12, 1895 Elick Sexton and
Florence Guest were united in marriage at
Abilene, Kansas. While still living in Kansas
several of their children were born. Ralph was
born in 1896, Clarence was born in 1897 but
died in 1898. One daughter, Mable, died at
the age of 8. Grace was born in 1899, Perry
in 1901 and Ray was born in 1906. Fred was
the last of the children born in Kansas in
1909. Elick and Florence bought a ranch in
southwest Hooker County and moved their
family there in 1912. After moving to the
ranch Park was born in 1912, Frank in 1914,
Beulah in 1916 and Orpha in 1918. While
living on the ranch the Sextons lost infant
twins. Elick and Florence spent most of their
remaining years on the ranch. In the early
1940's their son Frank bought their ranch and
they bought a small place south of Mullen. On
September 12, 1945 the Sextons celebrated
their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The open
house at their home was attended by their
family and many friends. Elick Sexton passed
away February 15, 1950. Florence Sexton
passed away Dec. 18, 1949.
