Entry F88 from the History of Hooker County Nebraska
with permission of the Hooker County Historical Society

I am the youngest member of the Cotant
family with the name of Dennis Michael. I
was born 1948 at my parents
home in Mullen, Nebr. My parents are Elva
(Willis) Cotant and Harvey Cotant. I was
born in a little three room house. We had no
bathroom or electricity. The water was piped
into the house from a water barrel at our well.
We had a pitcher pump that pumped the
water into the house. The water had to be
carried outside. The well was drilled by my
Dad, Harvey, January 2, 1948. The well was
a 2 inch, 170 feet deep, waterline was 110 feet.
Cost of the well material was $168.35. The
well was still pumping water when the tower
was taken dowm, the fall of 1984.

I attended Grade and High School in
Mullen, Hooker County and graduated from
Mullen High School May 18, 1966. My school
sports were: - 1964, basketball -
1964-`65and track - 1964, `65, `66.

I worked on several ranches during high
school days to help further my education.
Attended Grand Island School of Business
from September 1966 till June 1967, when I
graduated. I worked for the Pullman Cattle
Company for awhile, also worked at the R.R.
ranch and Tommy Roseberry's. Was parts
salesman at Schmoker Chevrolet and Olds,
started working there January 1971. Also
worked for Kraye Feed Supply and on the
roads in Cherry County.

I married Mica Sherry Maucher on June 9,
1974. Mica (in a former marriage) has a boy,
McKenley Fredrick born 1971.
Mica taught school south of Mullen the term
of 1974-`75. We moved from Mullen to
Imperial the fall of 1975. We bought a house
there and Kenley and I both live there. I have
purchased the former Creative Interiors
Store in Imperial, changing the name to The
Home Decor. The Home Decor features three
lines of carpet, congoleum and wood flooring,
ceramic tile, Pittsburg paints, custom draper-
ies, window coverings, wallpaper, cabinets,
countertops and water beds.

My folks bought an acreage in west Mullen
and built a new home in 1948 and `49. We
moved into the basement July 1949. My
mother took in washings and ironings,
cleaned house and babyset for children. This
helped furnish the house and helped with
expenses. Kenley lives with me and attends
High School, his sophomore year of 1986-`87.
