The Mullen Commercial Club was orga-
nized in 1922 by a group of local business men
and was then known as the Mullen Business
Mens' Club. At some later time the name was
changed to the Mullen Commercial Club.
The club is a non-profit corporation for the
purpose of community betterment. The
present membership fee is $10 per year per
person. Any person or business is eligible to
belong.

Various activities are undertaken by the
club. The visit of Santa to Mullen is sponso-
red by the club. It provides the candy for
Santa to give to the children and the fruit
baskets for the residents of the Pioneer
Memorial Rest Home.

An annual community scholarship of $600
is provided by the Mullen Commercial Club.

The annual barbeque during the Hooker
County Fair is provided by the club.

A community auction is also sponsored by
the club. This provides the residents an
opportunity to get rid of items no longer
needed and is a source of revenue for the club.

Each year some type of community enter-
tainment is brought in by the club. This past
year a professional women's basketball team
was brought in for an evening of good
entertainment.

The Sandhills Sharptail Grouse Hunt
Committee (a committee of the Mullen
Commercial Club) sponsors a one-box com-
petitive sharptail grouse hunt during the
second weekend of grouse season. This event
has grown to national recognition.

The club has helped finance the Nebraska
Highway 2 Brochure which promotes com-
munities and business along Nebraska High-
way 2.

There are approximately 40 individuals
who are currently members of the Mullen
Commercial Club. Approximately half of the
business places in Mullen have 1 or more
individuals belonging to the club.
